Rules used for classifying model trains
Since the first railcar "Algiers-Tombouctou" with a rubber band engine until the last top model of electric locomotive BB 36000 SNCF Astride, the production over more than 50 years was very prolific. In front of the too many manufactured models, several classes are mandatory need:
on a first level, one class in French models (old companies before the SNCF, then the SNCF), then export models
(mainly European railway companies), then unclassable models like the tank-engine 0-4-0 of free drawing, then extra models
manufactured by Jouef for special series, and in subcontracting to be marketed directly by third parts, and finally the
models sold by Jouef coming originally from others train makers
inside each class described previously, one sub-class by kind of rolling stock (locomotives, passenger coaches, freight wagons)
for the locomotive class, separates between steam locomotives, electric locomotives, diesel locomotives, railcars, electric railcar, high speed trains
for passenger coaches, it is rolling stock usage: main line, suburbs, vans, following as possible the chronological order of the full scale rolling stock
for the freight wagons, it is the class which is selected: freight wagons with two axles, bogie freight wagons then flat van, covered van, tank van or special vans
for the same class of rolling stock, it can exist several models, some approaching toy like (reduced length), others at correct scale
