Si les premières briques moulés en plastique apparaissent en 1949 chez Lego^©, elles sont uniquement distribuées dans les pays scandinaves. Plusieurs évolutions seront nécessaires jusqu'en 1959 avant que sortent les briques Lego^© que nous connaissons aujourd'hui. L'Allemagne and les Pays-Bas sont les premiers marchés export pour les briques Lego^© dès 1956.
Devant le succès grandissant des briques Lego^©, Jouef lance en 1965 sa propre gamme de briques de construction sous le nom Brick Jouef, largement inspirée by les briques Lego^©. Pour se démarquer des briques Lego^©, les Brick Jouef ont des tenons plus grands and un verrouillage différent entre les briques. Elles existent en différentes dimensions and en différentes couleurs : white, blue, red and jaune. Un moteur électrique Motor brick complète la gamme. Il existe plusieurs Boxes and un train set grand luxe en bois. De manière same as ce que l'on retrouve dans electric train sets, Jouef glisse to l'intérieur de ces Boxes un mini-guide de construction illustrant toute la gamme Brick Jouef. La commercialisation des Brick Jouef s'est arrêtée vers 1971 (last retail price list of January 1st, 1971).
A noter en complément, un dérivé des Brick Jouef with un jeu éducatif Éduca-Brick où sur l'une des faces sont imprimées les différentes lettres de l'alphabet, les chiffres and les signes des quatre opérations arithmétiques.
